Brood is the Afrikaans word for bread. It is a good name for a site built around everyday food: familiar, shareable and usually improved by inviting somebody else to the table.
Food that fits real life
Our Budget Kitchen focuses on flexible ingredients, pantry planning and practical swaps. Prices change, so we avoid promising a meal costs a fixed amount unless the ingredients and portions have been priced.
The recipe collection includes material carried over from the original Brood website. Recipes keep their original publication dates and links to original creators where supplied. Not every archive recipe has been independently tested; tell us if something needs correcting.
A little loafing is allowed
Food can be useful and fun. Our Bread Break has a memory game, bread jokes and completely fictional kitchen stories for the moments when the kettle is on and you need a smile.
